Republican Congressman From Texas Refuses to Say Obama Was Legitimately Elected President
This is Blake “Fatty” Farenthold, representing the heavily gerrymandered 27th District
Well, when the issue of Ted Cruz’s eligibility to run for president came up, Rep. Farenthold decided to take a jab at President Obama and his legitimacy as President of the United States.
When asked if he felt Cruz was eligible to run for President, Farenthold said, “Listen, we’ve had this discussion on Obama, he’s as eligible as Obama is.”
To which Chris Matthews pushed back, saying, “Can you repeat after me: he was legitimately elected president.”
Farenthold responded, “President Obama was elected president.”
“Legitimately,” said Matthews.
“The people elected him,” Farenthold followed with.
Still, even when pushed, Farenthold simply refused to say Obama was legitimately elected President of the United States.
Matthews went out of his way to give him every chance to simply say, “Barack Obama was legitimately elected president” — but he blatantly refused to do so.
Now, there are about three possible reasons for this. It could be that Farenthold represents a district so radically right that even him saying the words “President Obama is legitimately the President of the United States” might cost him his job. Sadly, we still live in a country with districts in certain states that are that blinded by hatred for the president. It could also be that Farenthold himself is so blinded by ignorance and hate that he simply refused to believe the overwhelming facts that Obama is a legitimately elected president. Or, perhaps the saddest and most likely option of all — it could be both.
